Rio Tinto Mark I and Mark II Bauxite Trailers
Mechatronix has designed all belly-dump bauxite trailers operating at Rio Tinto’s Weipa operations. These trailers have operated successfully since 2006, with a fleet of over 40 currently in operation. Designed to carry wet, sticky ore with minimal carry-back they feature very steep walls and a large discharge aperture. Optimised structural design has allowed for payloads in excess of 215t to be routinely towed behind a Cat 777 prime mover.
We were responsible for the complete mechanical and structural design of these trailers, including the trailer hitch assembly and assessment of the Trailer axle capacity.
